What Is CSA

CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) members participate in their own food supply by committing to share in the harvest of a local grower. By joining a CSA, you express your support for locally grown, ecoganic food, and to the farmers who grow it. A CSA creates a unique relationship between the consumers and the producers—nowadays, still not many people actually know the farmer who picked the tomatoes they are eating!

Community Supported Agriculture programs come in many forms. Essentially, the mission is to provide the farmers with well-timed support (in the form of early payment) so that the CSA member is part of the long process of getting food to the table. CSA members join up months and months before the first head of lettuce is picked, and the farmers are then able to pay the bills even while the seeds are just beginning to sprout, and there is nothing tangible to sell. In exchange, we give you the best of what we grow, all season long. We grow a wide range of vegetables, with our CSA members in mind first. From the first week of June until Thanksgiving, your CSA share is our top priority. We try not to overwhelm you, but we pick and wash and package a beautiful abundance of fresh and delicious vegetables for 24 weeks in a row. We would not be able to do this without the support that we get from our community in the late winter and early spring.

Members purchase shares in the winter, approximately four months before the start of the season. Each week from June through mid-November we harvest and distribute the vegetable shares. The exact selection and amount of produce depends on the nature of each season. Some trends are always present; at the beginning of the season, quantities tend to be smaller, with a focus on salad and greens. Toward the middle of the season, the variety and quantity is at its greatest. By the end of October, the range of vegetables has decreased dramatically. For many members, it is a completely new experience to follow the growing season so closely.

Your CSA Share

In addition to a weekly or biweekly share of vegetables:
  • You will receive a weekly email with food preparation tips and recipes.
  • We’ll send a bi-monthly newsletter that extends crop news, personal farm profiles, and other items of interest.
  • You can choose the best pick up or delivery option for your location and lifestyle. We offer Market-Style pick up for those who pick up on farm or at the farmers’ markets, and customizable shares for those who choose a delivery location.
  • You have the option to pay in full or use or flexible payment plans, whichever suits your budget.
  • Members are able to put their CSA share on hold for vacation and pick it up at a later date.

Who Should Join the CSA?

We’ve learned that people who fall into the following categories are a great match for the CSA program:

  • Anyone who appreciates fresh, local, seasonal produce and supporting the farms that grow it.
  • Those who enjoy cooking and making meals at home.
  • People who like vegetables and enjoy trying new foods.
  • Creative sorts who can be flexible in their meal plans and like the occasional challenge of an unusual vegetable.
  • People who do not travel extensively.

What Do You Grow?

This is a list of all the things we try to grow. You will most likely see each of these items at least once, and other items many times!
